Summer Season in Danang

The summer begins in May when the days start to length and the temperatures start to rise. On average the temperature reaches 33 degrees Celsius in May. And for most of the month you will only need an umbrella to hide from the sun, as there are typically only 3 days of rain in May in Da Nang.

Throughout the remainder of the summer until the end of August, the temperatures typically rise to 34 degrees Celsius during the day and can be expected to fall to 26 degrees Celsius at night. June and July remain relatively dry with only three and five days of rain respectively. At the end of August, Danang starts to see the start of the rainy season and the month typically has six days of rain total.

Danang is not only famous for its expansive beaches, but also for the beautiful climate which remains constant throughout the summer. However, bring a hat and put on your sunscreen to avoid the harsh afternoon sun at the Da Nang beach.

Danang Fireworks Festival

Kicking off the summer season is the Danang Fireworks Festival with an opening ceremony on 30th April 2018. The event continues for two months with four additional performances scheduled on 26 May, 2 June, 9 June, and 30 June. Ironman 70.3

Do you have what it takes to be an Ironman? Test your might during the annual Ironman Challenge in Danang. This year, the Ironman Challenge is expected to have 1,400 participants arriving from 59 countries. The main event begins 13th May 2018 and is hosted along the Vo Nguyen Giap Highway.

The Ironman Challenge in Danang is part of the official Ironman program which sees contestants test their physical prowess and total endurance across a 21-kilometer run, 90-kilometer bike ride along the beautiful beach in Danang, and a 1.9km swim at sea.

Danang Summer Destination

At the end of June, Danang has scheduled to celebrate the summer with the annual Danang Summer Destination festival. This event presents performances from famous Vietnamese artists and DJs in the evening. During the day witness dragonboat racing and other exciting beach competitions. Please note that the event has been confirmed for 2018; however, the official date has not been set yet.

World Art Performance Festival

At the beginning of July, join the first World Art Performance Festival presented by the International Theatre Institute (ITI). This unique cultural event is scheduled from 1st July to 8th July 2018 and will present 20 teams from ITI Member countries each with their own unique style of art and dance. This captivating event is sure to impress in its inaugural debut.

Manulife Danang International Marathon

Another major event for fitness enthusiasts, join the annual Manulife Danang International Marathon on 12th August 2018. In its sixth year, this internationally renowned marathon takes participants from the Au Co pagoda along Bien Dong Park on Vo Nguyen Gap Highway, passing along the beautiful Danang beaches.

The event offers a variety of races including 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42 km runs. Turnout for this year’s event is expected to reach over 5,000 domestic and international athletes.

If you would like to register for the event, the marathon kit can be purchased at the Vietnam Travelmart on 68 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai St., Hai Chau Ward, Danang or through the official event website.

Summer Activities

In addition to the events listed above, Danang is a perfect destination for your travels this summer. The most popular destination is the beach on the east coast. Activities at the beach include swimming, sunbathing, volleyball, football, and parasailing. The most popular beach is Bien Dong Beach located along Vo Nguyen Giap Highway.

For those looking for adventure, take a tour of Son Tra which features a unique ecosystem of lush vegetation home to many exotic and rare animals. The Son Tra Peninsula also presents spectacular views of the coastline and Danang city. On the south side of Son Tra Peninsula lies the Chua Linh Ung pagoda with a towering Lady Buddha facing the sea.

To the west of Danang lies a mountain range ready for further exploration. Tours can be arranged to visit lush waterfalls or hot spring parks. Heading along the mountain range near the north coast is one of the most spectacular drives in Vietnam, the Hai Van pass. The pass is famous since ancient times for its magnificent views. Today, a highway passes over the mountains, and is popular amongst local bikers for its challenging climb.

For lovers of aquatic life, an adventure exists under the sea with popular snorkeling in Hoi An located off the coast on Cham Island. Tours can be arranged with pick up available at hotels in Da Nang. Amongst the most popular is a tour of the Cham Island, once a military-restricted area, with traditional market and pagoda followed by an afternoon snorkeling at sea.
